Southern Sudan Referendum
On January 9-14, 2011 many Southern Sudanese in the US traveled hundreds of miles to polling centers, and voted for the Unity of Sudan or Secession of Southern Sudan. International and domestic observers, members of the US Newsmedia and Foreign Press were on site to document the US Out of Country Voting (OCV) process.

The IOM Out-of-country voting campaign allowed Iraq expatriates residing abroad to become active participants in the electoral process and thus to be represented in the civil and political life at home, even if they are unable or unwilling to return. IOM assisted hundreds of thousands of eligible nationals exercise their right to vote, in a combination of mail and in-person operations in the largest external voting program to date.
